A scientific seminar on promoting tourism in Phu Quoc during the 2015-2020 period, with a vision to 2030 was organised on Phu Quoc Island in the southern province of Kien Giang on April 21st.
About 20 speeches focused on four factors, including the reality of Phu Quoc’s tourism resources; assessing development targets for the island; the strategy and marketing plan for the 2015-2020 period, with a vision to 2030; and the island’s capacity for international integration.
Phung Xuan Mai, Deputy Chairman of Kien Giang Business Association said that the seminar gathered intelligence from state, enterprises, scientists, journalists and teachers to aim at advertising Phu Quoc tourism with the expectation of making the island become an attractive hotspot to both domestic and foreign tourists.
In 2014, Phu Quoc welcomed more than 586,000 tourist arrivals, a 37.6% rise over a year earlier, in which foreign arrivals were 125,000, up 21.5% from the previous year. Tourism turnover reached over VND2.2 trillion, 11% higher than the year’s plan and a year-on-year increase of 84%.
