(TITC) – In the framework of Mekong Tourism Forum 2015, a workshop on Unlocking the Potential of the Mekong Region via Innovative Partnerships was held on 18th June in Da Nang.

Speaking at the workshop, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Le Khanh Hai said the GMS which includes Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Viet Nam and China’s Yunnan and Guangxi provinces, has been deemed diversified natural and humanity resources with dozens of natural heritage sites recognized by UNESCO. Therefore, Mekong Tourism Forum 2015 will be an opportunity for collaboration between the public and private sectors enhancing human resources for investment into product development and promotion to turn the GSM into a common destination for tourists.
Recently, the GMS’s Tourism have been challenged by climate change, natural disasters, epidemics…thus, tourism sector of the GMS should join hands to overcome and facilitate to attract strategic investors to build tourism products of high competitiveness to satisfy the high demand of tourists in the region and beyond.
On 18th June, Vietnamese Government has released a resolution on visa exemptions for single-entry visits of not more than 15 days for citizens from Germany, France, the UK, Italy, and Spain valid from 1st July 2015 to 30th June 2016 to boost tourism, the Director General of Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Van Tuan said at the workshop.
In addition, with the close cooperation among national tourism organizations, assistance from international organizations, active tourism enterprises and relevant parties, the GMS is becoming an appealing region for investors and a dynamic tourism market in the future.
The Mekong Tourism Forum 2016 will take place in Cambodia.
