Vinh Hy - Binh Lap: A journey of emotions
Update: Jul 09, 2025
Ninh Thuan province, which is now part of Khanh Hoa province, still has the rustic, unspoiled charm of Vietnam’s south central coast. It’s renowned for its vast white salt fields, lush vineyards, ancient Cham towers, and above all, the DT702 coastal road, also known as the Vinh Hy - Binh Lap route, a “hidden treasure” that beckons travelers. DT702 offers a breathtaking journey by the sea where sunshine and sea breezes merge to paint a spectacular natural landscape.

DT702 runs for 60 km between Nui Chua National Park on one side and the East Sea on the other, passing near many popular tourist destinations, including Thai An vineyard, the largest vineyard in Ninh Thuan, Hang Rai (Otter Cave), Vinh Hy Bay, and Ninh Chu Beach, taking in breathtaking views of majestic cliffs, lush greenery, and the vast ocean. There are many places where travelers can stop to take photos or just enjoy a lingering look at nature’s beauty.

Experienced adventurers say the best time to drive this route is between March and September. From Phan Rang - Thap Cham city center, head toward the coast and the first place you'll reach is Ninh Chu Beach.

Crescent-shaped Ninh Chu beach with its clean white sand and clear water is counted among the nine most beautiful beaches in Vietnam. It’s a great spot for swimming, surfing, fishing, and sailing.

Tran Ngoc Chau, a tourist from Hanoi, said: “There are three beaches along the coast: Ninh Chu, Phan Rang, and Binh Son. Ninh Chu is the most beautiful. The sunrise here is stunning, fresh, and peaceful. What's special is that the mountains stretch toward the sea, so I could admire both the vast ocean and the sunrise over the mountains. Early in the morning, I saw locals walking and doing physical exercises such as yoga at the beach. It made me feel truly immersed in nature. The people here are very friendly.”

Leaving Ninh Chu, the DT702 coastal road begins to unveil its legendary beauty, with the most spectacular stretch running from Vinh Hy Bay to Binh Tien. This part, considered the "heart" of the route, leaves a lasting impression on all travelers. The road resembles a silk ribbon winding between the sea and the limestone cliffs. Soon you come to Vinh Hy Bay, often called the “muse” of Ninh Thuan. Surrounded by towering limestone mountains and home to coral reefs visible through the crystal-clear waters, the bay offers an unforgettable natural spectacle.

Visitors can snorkel, go on a glass-bottom boat tour, fish, or simply relax on the white sand. Vinh Hy is still relatively undeveloped.

Nguyen Anh Dao, a tourist from Da Nang, said: “The blue sky and crystal blue water are breathtaking. This is a place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life or crowded tourist areas and truly enjoy peace.”

The coastal road in Ninh Thuan also leads travelers to the local culture, daily life, and distinctive cuisine. Thai An Vineyard, one of the largest in Ninh Thuan, is the land of grapes. Visitors can tour the vineyards, admire lush green grapevines, and handpick juicy grape clusters. They can enjoy fresh grapes right in the garden and sample local specialties like grape wine, grape honey, and grape syrup.

“This is my first time visiting such a large vineyard. I got to pick ripe grapes and taste them right away,” a visitor said.

“I’m very impressed. The vineyard is spacious and full of fresh, delicious grapes at reasonable prices. It also has a beautiful setting for taking photos.”

Beyond the highlight stops, the journey from Vinh Hy to Binh Lap offers more attractions, including Hang Rai, a cluster of mossy caves created by layers of ancient rock formations, beautiful beaches like Chuoi, Kinh, and Nuoc Ngot, grasslands for cows and sheep in Binh Tien village, the Mui Dinh and Son Hai sand dunes complex, and vast white salt fields.

The journey ends at Binh Lap peninsula, often called “the Maldives of Vietnam,” with its fine white sands, emerald waters, and unspoiled coral reefs.

The Ninh Thuan coastal road is not just a transportation route connecting regions, to many travelers, it’s a masterpiece of nature, carefully preserved and nurtured by nature and human hands. It is the perfect fusion of mountains and seas, the rich local culture, and the hospitality of the local people.
