The festival of gong and folk song for Quang Ngai ethnic minorities kicked off in Tra Xuan Town, Tra Bong District, on June 12.

Addressing the opening ceremony, deputy director of Quang Ngai Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Cao Chu, said that this year’s festival featured the participation of artisans and artists of ethnic minorities in Quang Ngai, such as H’re, Cor and Cadong ethnic groups, who live in six mountainous districts, namely Son Tay, Son Ha, Tra Bong, Tay Tra, Ba To and Minh Long.
The event promises to offer performances that reflect the traditional cultural value of ethnic group in Quang Ngai Province.
The gong and folk songs of ethnic minorities in Quang Ngai are facing the threat of falling into oblivion, due to the impacts of modern life.
The festival aims to preserve and uphold the traditional cultural value of ethnic groups in Quang Ngai and contribute to the development of Vietnamese culture and national character.
The event, organised by Quang Ngai Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism co-ordinated with Tra Bong district People’s Committee, run until June 13.
