Muong Lo Cultural and Tourism Week opens in Yen Bai

The Muong Lo Cultural and Tourism Week 2016 was officially opened at a ceremony held in Nghia Lo Town, Yen Bai Province on September 17.

At the ceremony, Thai ethnic minority members in Nghia Lo Town were honoured with the National Recognition of Intangible Cultural Heritage for their Han Khuong traditional performance.

The event will run until September 19 including a series of activities, such as competitions and performances of traditional sports, a cultural festival of Thai ethnic folk arts, street performances entitled the Colorful Northwest region, ritual ceremonies and traditional performances.

In addition, visitors will also have a chance to observe local people picking and drying tea leaves as well as sample Shan Tuyet tea and steamed sticky rice, which are two local specialties, furthermore, visitors can take part in on-site tour guide competitions and photo exhibitions at the Memorial to President Ho Chi Minh.

Organised by the province’s People’s Committee, the week is part of ongoing co-operation between Yen Bai and seven other northwestern provinces in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Nghia Lo Town. The provinces also hopes to attract more visitors to Yen Bai Province and to increase public awareness on the importance of preserving cultural values.

The week is organised to promote tourism in the western region of Yen Bai Province, as well as to strengthen unity among minority groups, share experiences in preserving traditional cultural values and attract further investment in the locality.
