The first national festival of Dao ethnic culture will take place in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang from September 29th to 30th.

The information was released at a press briefing held in Ha Noi on September 21st by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with Tuyen Quang provincial People’s Committee.
The event is expected to draw the participation of the Dao ethnic communities from 12 provinces and cities nationwide.
Diverse activities, including exhibition on Dao ethnic culture, performances of Dao traditional festivities, mass artistic performances, and a show on Dao traditional women’s clothes will be held during the festival.
In addition, there will be sport activities and folk games. Visitors will have also opportunity to visit historical relics and beautiful landscapes in Tuyen Quang province.
One of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups, the Dao community has an estimated population of 750,000. They mostly reside in northern mountainous provinces such as Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai and Yen Bai.
Their main livelihood is farming in rocky areas, weaving, and silver craft making.
