The Secretary of the Ha Nam Provincial Party Committee presents the Excellence Award to the Thanh Hoa Province Traditional Art Theatre.

The two-week festival, held by the Performing Arts Department in coordination with the Vietnam Theatre Artists Association, attracted the participation of 16 troupes with 27 performances of Cheo (Vietnamese traditional opera) by nearly 1,500 artists.

The organisers also granted six gold prizes and six silver prizes to other outstanding performances.

Playwright Nguyen Dang Chuong was honoured as the Best Playwright, while Hoai Thu was honoured as the Best Director. The Best Musician title went to Vu Thieng and Hoai Anh was commended as the Best Choreographer.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong emphasised that the festival featured many creative and quality Cheo performances, which is also an opportunity for managers and experts to build development strategies for traditional Vietnamese theatre in general and Cheo in particular.

Once again, we see that Cheo is a type of musical theatre with a wonderful and unique combination of singing, dancing, music, and drama. Cheo art has deeply penetrated the cultural and spiritual life and has become one of the typical traditional arts imbued with Vietnamese national identity, Dong noted.
