Phu Quoc fish sauce making recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage

The People's Committee of Kien Giang province organised a ceremony, on December 16 to receive the Decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, on recognising the making of fish sauce on Phu Quoc Island city, as part of the national intangible cultural heritage.

Leaders of Kien Giang province awarded the certificate of Phu Quoc fish sauce making as a national intangible cultural heritage to the Phu Quoc Fish Sauce Association.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province Nguyen Luu Trung said, that Phu Quoc's traditional fish sauce making craft recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage is an important event not only for people working in producing Phu Quoc fish sauce but also for promoting the perfection of state management requirements for specific products, goods and services of Kien Giang; contributing to quality assurance, brand development, and the ability to enter domestic and foreign markets of typical local products.

According to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province, the traditional fish sauce making in Phu Quoc is the cultural heritage of the Vietnamese, brought to the island in the journey to explore the southern land.

Through the process of formation and development, Phu Quoc's traditional fish sauce making has constantly increased in both quantity and quality.

Delegates visit the booth displaying Phu Quoc fish sauce products at the event.

Currently, Phu Quoc fish sauce is not only famous in the country but also exported to many countries around the world.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province awarded certificates of merit to five collectives and five individuals who have made contributions to protecting and promoting the intangible cultural values of the "Phu Quoc fish sauce making craft".
