The Ben Tre provincial authorities held a ceremony at Dong Khoi Park, on April 26 to inaugurate the upgraded Dong Khoi Ben Tre monument.
The newly-inaugurated monument features the image of a mother on the left side and a group of people on the right side. The 7.3m tall mother statue raises a torch high in her right hand while weaving her left hand to make a signal of moving forward.
Meanwhile, the 4.5m cluster of statues on the right side symbolises people from different walks of life joining the national resistance. The monument stands above a large circular lake with a diameter of 30 metres.
The upgraded monument has a total investment of more than 18 billion VND.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of Ben Tre Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Be Muoi said that over the past 27 years, the monument has become a symbol of solidarity and bravery of Ben Tre people during wartime.
The project on upgrading the monument aims to improve its reliability, resilience, and sustainability against weather conditions, she stated.
