Khanh Hoa Province has rich history and culture and has restored, renovated, protected and preserved many tangible cultural heritages to promote their values.

Many monuments are renovated

The province’s cultural sector has recently renovated  6 provincial-level monuments, including: Lap Dinh Communal House (Lap Dinh Village, Cam Hoa Commune, Cam Lam District); Quang Dong Communal House (Quang Dong Village, Ninh Dong Commune, Ninh Hoa Town); Hung Vuong Temple (No. 173 Ngo Gia Tu Street, Tan Tien Ward, Nha Trang City); Headquarters of Ba Ngoi Provisional Revolutionary People's Committee (Xom Con Residential Group, Cam Linh Ward, Cam Ranh City), Tra Long Communal House (Huong Long Residential Group, Ba Ngoi Ward, Cam Ranh City), My Thanh Communal House (My Thanh Village, Cam Thinh Dong Commune, Cam Ranh City). Regarding Headquarters of Ba Ngoi Provisional Revolutionary People's Committee, the local authorities plan to organize exhibitions of artifacts, images, and documents related to the history, culture, revolutionary traditions, and socio-economic achievements of Cam Ranh, according to Vu Trong Nghia, head of Cam Ranh City Department of Culture and Information.

Reportedly, in 2024, the Provincial Monuments Preservation Center completed scientific documentation to propose recognizing Cau Da villa monument (Nha Trang City) and Doc Gao archaeological site (Khanh Son District) as province-level monuments. The center is currently preparing scientific documentation to propose the recognition of Ponagar Temple as a special national monument; finalizing the investment report for restoration of the southern tower at Ponagar Temple; proposing the project to preserve and promote the value of Dien Khanh Citadel; conducted mapping of 12 monuments in Nha Trang City, Ninh Hoa Town and Dien Khanh District; and so on.

Increasing promotion of heritages

Effective promotion of heritages is one of the outstanding results of heritage promotion over the past time. The Provincial Monument Preservation Center has cooperated with localities to successfully organize the district-level contest on cultural heritages in 8 localities in the province, deciding 8 excellent teams to participate in the province-level contest taking place in early October. The province-level contest was live streamed on the Facebook and YouTube of Khanh Hoa Newspaper, which helped promote the contest more widely. The center has also digitalized cultural heritages. Specifically, the center applied a monument management software; installed QR codes at 13 out of 16 national monuments and QR codes that provide automated bilingual (Vietnamese-English) explanations about monuments on the center’s official website at ditichkhanhhoa.org.vn; applied virtual reality 360° technology at Ponagar Temple; published a publication on the beliefs of coastal communities in Nha Trang; organized a scientific seminar on promotion of the heritage value of Ponagar Temple for sustainable tourism development; and so on.

A art performance at Ponagar Temple

In addition, the Provincial Monument Preservation Center also organized many cultural programs at Ponagar Temple including exchange program with Indian artisans and artists, night art programs, photo exhibition about Thien Y A Na Holy Mother in Khanh Hoa and Cham monuments in the central region, etc. At Hon Chong tourist attraction, the center organized a discussion and photo exhibition about Doc Gao archaeological site and Raglai cultural heritages in Khanh Hoa. The center also cooperated with 8 schools to organize visits to Ponagar Temple and Hon Chong tourist attraction for 490 pupils.

In the coming time, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture will continue to focus on propaganda of laws related to cultural heritages in order to raise public awareness of the role of cultural heritages in sustainable development as well as implement projects to preserve and renovate historical and cultural monuments.

Currently, Khanh Hoa Province has 16 nation-level monuments, 182 province-level monuments; 3 national intangible cultural heritages (Ponagar Temple Festival, Whale Worship Festival, Raglai Grave-leaving Ceremony). The province is one of the localities of which Bai Choi was recognized by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
