Memento - A Peaceful Tourist Site
Update: Nov 13, 2012
Visiting Memento, a countryside tourist area in Lac Loi Hamlet, Dien Hoa Commune, Dien Khanh District in the south central coast province of Khanh Hoa, visitors will have a chance to immerse themselves in a peaceful place of green bamboo clusters, plants, beautiful flowers and the sounds of the countryside.

Memento was a 1.5ha garden owned by Tran Dang Nhon, an English teacher in Nha Trang City. In the middle of the garden stands an ancient ancestor worshipping house that was built in the 1930s. Originating from an idea of introducing tourists to the ancient house, the family of Tran Dang Nhon developed the garden into a pleasant tourist destination that reminds people of the sweet memories of countryside and family. Apart from the ancient ancestor worshipping house, they built some thatched cottages equipped with modern conveniences. All the cottages in Memento were designed to look towards the greenish fields with swimming pools, grassplots, vegetable gardens, fishponds and fruit trees. Furthermore, they also use farming tools, including sickles, ploughshares and rice husking machines to decorate the surroundings.

Here, tourists can live among nature, behold immense paddy fields, take a stroll around the village, see the daily life of farmers, go fishing in ponds, take a rest on hammocks and enjoy delicious countryside food. In the evening, visitors can relax in an outside bar, have dinner by candlelight or lie on the grass in the moon light. For this reason, the tourist area has attracted a large number of domestic and foreign tourists.

For Antje Grocholl, a German tourist, Memento really brought to his family an unforgettable summer holiday. One day in July, his family came to the tourist area by car. The car ran on a stone-paved path to take his family to the area where the bustling and noisy life of the urban areas were left behind. In front of them was only a peaceful countryside landscape with green trees, thatched cottages under the shade of coconut trees and water jars in the corners of the garden. Not long after taking a rest, their family started exploring the area. They took a tour around the fields and Dien Hoa Village by buffalo cart to learn about the life of the local people. They also enjoyed visiting a rural market, made rice pancakes by themselves and cooked and tasted traditional Vietnamese dishes.

Pham Y Tho, the Executive Director of Memento said: "Coming to Memento, tourists will have a very relaxing time and get the feeling of living in a peaceful countryside".
