Nguyen Du memorial recognised as special national relic

The Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee held a ceremony on December 15 to receive the Prime Minister's certificate recognising the Nguyen Du memorial site as a Special National Relic and to celebrate the 247th anniversary of the poet's birthday.

The event was attended by members of the Party Central Committee: National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists' Association Thuan Huu, Chairman of the Vietnam Social Sciences Institute Nguyen Xuan Thang, Secretary of the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of provincial People's Council Nguyen Thanh Binh; leaders of central and local departments, scientists, researchers and members of the Vietnam Kieu Study Association, as well as leaders of Nghi Xuan district, representatives of Nguyen - Tien Dien family and people of Ha Tinh city.

 

Covering in Tien Dien commune, Nghi Xuan district, the memorial site dedicated to the great poet, Nguyen Du, who was recognised by UNESCO as a world cultural celebrity due to his literary masterpieces including "Truyen Kieu" (Tale of Kieu). It was acknowledged as a national relic in 1960.

 

Addressing the ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Dang Thi Bich Lien, praised the efforts Ha Tinh province has made to preserve and promote the values bequeathed by Nguyen Du and his family.

 

The Vietnam Records Organisation presented certificates recognising five "Truyen Kieu" records to the province at the ceremony.

 

Earlier the same day, the National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu and leaders of ministries, central sectors and Ha Tinh province laid wreaths and offered incense at the great poet's worship house and tomb.

 

On the occasion, a scientific workshop on "Nghe's cultural flow from "Truyen Kieu" to Tho Moi (New Poetry) Movement" was held in Nghi Xuan on December 15, the Management Board of the Nguyen Du memorial site launched the nguyendu.vn portal and the Vietnam Kieu Study Association presented VND50 million to Ha Tinh provincial Study Encouragement Association.
