Khau Vai love market cultural - tourism week launched

A nightingale fighting competition was held on April 30 in Meo Vac district in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang to launch the 2013 Khau Vai Love Market Cultural - Tourism Week.

The competition brought together more than 80 nightingales from the province's district and cities.

The week, which is scheduled to last through May 6, features a wide variety of activities including a performance to introduce the traditional costumes of the ethnic minorities living in the province on April 30, a goat fighting festival on May 1-2, a performance describing the rain worshipping ritual of the Lo Lo ethnic minority people on May 3, an incense offering at the two temples in Khau Vai commune on May 5.

Other cultural activities and folk games will also be held during the week such as the banh day (glutinous-rice round cake) making contest of the Nung ethnic group and linen weaving competition of Mong ethnic minority people.

The official opening and closing ceremonies of the Khau Vai Love Market Cultural - Tourism Week are being held on May 4 and May 6, respectively.

The annual Khau Vai Love Market is opened for people from the ethnic minority groups in Ha Giang province to meet and exchange each other. It attracts a large number of both local and foreign visitors.
