Under the decision, the researched area is about 1,700 hectares, while the scale to set up the common scheme for the building is about 1,000 hectares.

The common scheme is to develop the Ban Gioc waterfall tourism area as a major travel destination of the country and Cao Bang province, contributing to speeding up provincial and regional socio-economic development in combination with protecting national defence and security.

In addition, the Ban Gioc waterfall tourism area will include functional zones and comprehensive infrastructure to exploit existing advantages in geographical position and natural resources to develop tourist products and services towards sustainability, in combination with environmental protection. The scheme also emphasized on arranging inhabitants, infrastructure, and projects to both ensure development and preserve the national cultural character.

The detailed scheme is to form a modern tourism service centre to meet the demand of diversified development for the Ban Gioc waterfall tourism area. Accordingly, the common scheme on building the Ban Gioc waterfall tourism area will attract investment in infrastructure. The Ban Gioc waterfall tourism area is forecast to draw about 350,000 arrivals per year by 2015 and 1 million arrivals per year by 2020.

The decision also defined that for the common scheme on building the Ban Gioc waterfall tourism area, it is necessary to assess the role and position of the tourism area under the tourism development circumstances of the province, the region and the country. Especially, considering the role of being a major tourism area and an important destination under the inter-provincial and inter-regional tourism route of Cao Bang – Bac Kan – Northern delta and Lang Son – Cao Bang – Ha Giang.
