US grants USD40,000 to preserve Cam Gia communal house in Vinh Phuc province
Update: Aug 12, 2014
A grant of USD40,000 from the US Ambassador’s fund for cultural preservation will help the northern province of Vinh Phuc to restore and preserve the Cam Gia communal house in An Tuong commune, Vinh Tuong district.

Accordingly, the architectural structure of Cam Gia Communal House will be preserved and restored to counter the effects of severe degradation. It has eight compartments, with a harem and an altar located in a private space reserved for the saints.

The communal house, built in 1811, was listed by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry Culture, Sports and Tourism) as a “national level historical, cultural vestige” in the Decision No 460/QD-BT March 18, 1996.

Especially, there are many carved arrays typically present in the transitional period between architectural styles from late Le dynasty to Nguyen dynasty.

Established by the US Department of State in 2001 to help less developed countries preserve cultural heritage and to demonstrate US respect for other cultures, the Ambassador’s fund for cultural preservation has so far supported more than 800 cultural preservation projects in 120 countries worldwide, totalling USD46 million.

Viet Nam benefits 13 projects in the list.
