A series of festive activities will be held across Ho Chi Minh City from December 20 to welcome the New Year 2015, said Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports Le Ton Thanh at a press briefing on December 17.
The highlight of the New Year celebrations will be a 15-minute firework display in combination with light performances at the New Year’s Eve at the Bitexco Financial Tower in District 1 and Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11.
Besides, special art programmes are scheduled to take place from December 31 to January 1 in many places, including universities, industrial and export processing zones. They will feature specific songs and dances of the country’s three regions to be performed by famous singers.
Main streets such as Ham Nghi, Le Loi, Dong Khoi, Le Duan and Pham Ngoc Thach as well as well-known Lam Son Park, Turtle Lake and Van Don Wharf will be decorated under the themes of the New Year and the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the south and national reunification.
Furthermore, many sports activities will be held on December 28, including a traditional boat race on the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe canal and a bike race in Mai Chi Tho Boulevard, District 2.
