According to Hai Duong provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Con Son – Kiep Bac spring festival 2015 will take place in the province from March 4th to 7th (the 14th to 17th of the first lunar month).
It will coincide with the 50th anniversary of Uncle Ho’s visit to Con Son and the 681st death anniversary of Venerable Huyen Quang , the Tertiary Patriarch of Truc Lam Zen, (1334 – 2015) to honor Truc Lam Zen’s great merits to the cause of religious unity and national defence.
The traditional Con Son – Kiep Bac festival is a special and diverse cultural feature reflecting the creativity and inner wishes of millions of compatriots going there from all over the country to respectfully express their desire to deepen patriotism, self-help for self-improvement, and will to defend national independence and all descending from forefathers, typically the national heroes of Tran Hung Dao and Nguyen Trai, the Tertiary Patriarch of Truc Lam Zen and teacher Chu Van An.
Diverse activities will be held during this year’s festival, including incense offering, the death anniversary of Venerable Huyen Quang, the ground breaking ceremony for a tower at Con Son pagoda, the opening ceremony of Con Son – Kiep Bac spring festival 2015, the 50th anniversary of Uncle Ho’s visit to Con Son, and other folk games and cultural activities such as contests on making Chung and day cakes, clay firecrackers, national wrestling and cock fighting, calligraphy and Quan ho folk singing.
To prepare for the festival, the road to Kiep Bac temple has been upgraded with an investment of VND700 million. The relics of Con Son – Kiep Bac were recognized as national relics in 1962 and as special national relics in 2012. In the Con Son – Kiep Bac spring festival 2013, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized the Con Son spring festival and Kiep Bac autumn festival as national intangible cultural heritage.
