Mekong Delta localities cooperate to boost tourism development

The Mekong Delta Tourism Association is closely associating with regional localities to strengthen promotional activities and focus on improving the quality of human resources for tourism development in the region during 2015.

Currently, the association has upgraded its website, built additional specific tourism products, established model tours for Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Vinh Long and Tra Vinh provinces. In 2014, the regional tourism sector greeted more than 22.4 million tourists, a year-on-year rise of 8.3%, in which foreign arrivals reached over 1.83 million, up 10.2%. Turnover from tourism was estimated at VND6.36 trillion, a 23.5% rise against 2013.

Over the past year, the association surveyed and selected 16 typical destinations in the region, seven of which are new hotspots, including Hung Vuong square, the villa of Bac Lieu mandarin's son, Nha Mat (Mat House) tourist area, Tram Chim National Park, Nguyen Sinh Sac relic (Dong Thap province), Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen monastery and Cai Rang floating market (Can Tho city).

In addition, localities Can Tho, An Giang, Kien Giang, Ca Mau and Bac Lieu have coordinated together to organise numerous tourism development cooperation programs in 2014.

In 2014, An Giang attracted the highest number of tourist arrivals with 6 million while Kien Giang earned the highest tourism turnover of VND1.53 trillion.
