ASEAN and Russia talk on strengthening tourism cooperation

(TITC) – In the framework of ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2019, on 15 January 2019, the 9th ASEAN-Russian Federation Tourism Consultation Meeting was held in Ha Long City, Viet Nam, under the chairmanship of Viet Nam and Russian Federation.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh – Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, spoke highly of fruitful achievements in tourism cooperation between ASEAN and Russian Federation. The tourist exchange is growing, and Russian tourists now account for a large segmentation of each ASEAN member states. A wide range of products and services are particularly targeted at the Russian tourism market. Although Russian tourists have ever represented the top ten market of ASEAN, Russian people coming to ASEAN for holidays has registered a small proportion in comparison with potentials. The statistics shows that the number of outbound tourist trips taken by Russian nationals annually recorded around 40 million trips. Total visitor arrivals from Russia to ASEAN have recently reached over 2 million. To reap higher outputs of tourist exchange, the tourism cooperation between ASEAN member states and Russian Federation should be further strengthened.

At the meeting, ASEAN Secretariat briefed the tourism-related outcomes of the 3rd ASEAN-Russia Summit held on 14 November 2018 in Singapore.

Relating to ASEAN-Russian Federation tourism cooperation, the delagates focused on discussing advanced Russian language training, ensuring safety for visitors, new proposed ASEAN-Russia tourism projects and activities…

The 10th ASEAN-Russian Federation Tourism Consultation Meeting is expected to organize in Brunei.
