Update: Sep 25, 2024
“Coloring heritage” and “Hue Art Memory Game” featuring traditional Vietnamese motifs from the Nguyen Dynasty are part of the “Heritage education” program for 2024, jointly organized by Hue Monuments Conservation Center and GEKE (German society for the Preservation of cultural heritage). The program is held at Phung Tien Temple in Hue Imperial Citadel and is entirely free for children.

Introducing students to traditional Vietnamese decorative motifs from the Nguyen Dynasty

Participants in this program will learn about traditional decorative patterns in the citadel and practice watercolor painting techniques. They will receive instructions on traditional drawing techniques, an introduction to coloring methods and their applications, and explore the traditional motifs at the guarding screen wall and main gate of Phung Tien Temple… During the activity, children can choose printed motif designs on A3 paper and experience coloring them using professional watercolors and brushes at the project's office within Phung Tien Temple.

Participants in “Hue Art Memory Game” will explore the meanings of the motifs, as well as study, and search for those used at Phung Tien Temple.

Enjoying the games

According to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, this program is part of the project “Conservation, restoration, and virtual reconstruction, integrated with technical training at Phung Tien Temple.” It aims to raise awareness of Hue’s cultural heritage, helping children develop focus, artistic skills, and creativity through interactive and enjoyable activities related to Nguyen Dynasty art. Additionally, it fosters memory, understanding, and creativity. Children can learn and play together in the cultural heritage space of Phung Tien Temple.

Activities are held in the mornings or afternoons on weekends and are registered through schools. Children will enter through the Ngo Mon Gate and walk to Phung Tien Temple. The program is free of charge, including entrance fees, materials, and refreshments.
