Eleven Red River Delta cities and provinces will take part in National Tourism Year 2013 on the theme "Red River Civilization" and activities scheduled to take place during the year will be officially announced in January 2013.
This information was released at a press conference in Hanoi on November 2.
The participating provinces include Hanoi, Haiphong, Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Ha Nam, Vinh Phuc and Bac Giang.
Le Khac Nam. Vice Chairman of the Haiphong municipal People's Committee, said National Tourism Year 2013 aims to introduce destinations and attract more domestic and foreign tourists to the region.
He also noted that the event also offers a good chance to strengthen tourism connectivity among localities and nationwide aiming to promote international integration, attract investment, and develop tourism and fully tap tourism potential.
Within the Tourism Year framework, 66 events have been scheduled including 23 organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in co-ordination with relevant agencies.
Haiphong city suggested that international organizations and sister cities should also participate in culture, sports and tourism activities within National Tourism Year 2013.
The special year will also be advertised widely during "Vietnam Years" in Japan and France.
Haiphong city is planning to create new tourism products and develop its current tourist attractions in order to prepare for next year.
