The Sun Group Corporation has commenced construction of a three-wire cable car system in Sapa town, Lao Cai province to transport tourists to the peak of Fansipan Mountain - the roof of Indochina.
The 7km-long cable system - the first of its kind in Asia - will be able to carry a maximum of 2,000 people per hour, with a capacity of 35 passengers per car.
When the system is put into operation, it will shorten the current two-day journey required to reach Fansipan's summit down to 15 minutes.
The cable system is produced by world-famous Austrian cable manufacturer Doppelmayr, which also provided equipment and services to the Ba Na Hills cable car system in Da Nang.
The three-wire cable car system - which will be the longest, highest and most complex of its type in the world - is scheduled for completion by 2017. It should attract more tourists to Sapa and promote the potential economic advantages of Lao Cai province.
