(TITC) - According to Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Can Tho City will strive for the target by 2015 of attracting 3,140,000 tourist arrivals, including 440,000 international arrivals, achieving total tourism receipts of VND 2,500 billion; the target by 2020 of receiving 4.8 million tourist arrivals, reaching total tourism receipts of VND 6,000 billion.
To attain the goals, Can Tho has implemented such concrete activities as investment in upgrading tourism infrastructure; improving the quality of tourism products and services; promoting investment in opening air routes from Tra Noc Airport to some countries in South-East Asia; diversifying the forms of tourism like ecotourism, cultural tourism, MICE tourism to meet increasing demand of tourists; completing tourism projects in the islets of Khuong, Au, Cai Khe and tourism clusters of Phong Dien, Thot Not; strengthening ecotourism development in Tan Loc Island and developing agri-tourism in O Mon – Co Do tourism cluster.
In addition to development of local ecotourism products, the city also focuses on linking ecotourism routes with others in Mekong River Delta. Along with An Giang and Kien Giang provinces, the three provinces have formed a tourism triangle to develop the region’s tourism through diversified topography with rivers, sea, islands and mountains.
Can Tho facilitates all economic sectors to invest in tourism infrastructure as ecological parks, restaurants and hotels, shipbuilding.
Can Tho also boosts human resources training on management, tourism business; restoring historic, cultural relics and traditional folk festivals imbued with national identity to lure more tourists.
Besides, Can Tho strengthens the promotion of provincial tourism within the country and overseas to improve local tourism image.
