Strengthening investment in tourism development in Mekong Delta

(TITC) – According to Mekong Delta Tourism Association, in 2014, the region’s localities have actively invested in tourism development, contributing to attracting more international and domestic tourists.

Tien Giang invests VND 430 billion in tourism development

In 2014, Tien Giang invests VND 430 billion to develop tourism. Being endowed with favorable natural conditions for development of ecotourism and leisure tourism, the province focuses on consolidating infrastructure for tourism, developing attractive tourist tours and routes, diversifying tourist products, simultaneously reducing breaches of tourism business regulations.

This year, Tien Giang accelerates the building of constructional works for tourism like Mekong Hotel, Cuu Long Hotel and Lac Hong Hotel in My Tho City. Besides, the province continues to invest in leisure area in Thoi Son Isle (My Tho City), coastal ecotourism area of Tan Thanh – Hang Duong (in Go Cong Dong District) and Dong Thap Muoi ecological conservation area (Tan Phuoc District). In addition, there is a combination among provincial relevant agencies to boost commercial promotion activities, introduce products, attract tourists, assist tourism businesses in promoting and developing new products, and design new tourist boat for traveling on Tien River.

Tien Giang has set the direction for the period 2012 – 2015 and vision to 2020 being effectively exploiting provincial potentials of ecotourism in all three ecological zones including Tien riverside freshwater ecological zone, Dong Thap Muoi mangrove ecological zone in Tan Phuoc District and Go Cong coastal ecological zone.

Tien Giang has also appreciated development of accommodation establishments, restaurants, means of transportation; restoration and embellishment of provincial famous historical and cultural relics; development of ecotourism associated with craft villages and fruit gardens.

Tien Giang tourism industry strives to welcome 1,386,000 tourist arrivals in 2014, increasing by 8.5% over last year, including 633,900 international arrivals and 752,100 domestic trippers; and reach total tourism receipts of VND 376 billion, up 15%. 

Tra Vinh associates with other localities to develop tourism

Tra Vinh has copious potentialities for development of different types of tourism such as historical and cultural tourism, sea tourism, ecotourism and spiritual tourism. Tra Vinh is famous for spiritual tourism with 141 ancient Khmer pagodas together with traditional festivals like Nghinh Ong Festival, Ook Om Bok Festival and Vu Lan Thang Hoi.

Recently, Tra Vinh has invested in infrastructure, ecotourism areas and green tourism in Ba Dong tourist area and isles of Long Tri and Tan Qui, restoration and embellishment of historical and cultural relics. The province has also cooperated with Tien Giang, Ben Tre and Vinh Long to link tourist routes and tours for the purpose of luring more tourists to Tra Vinh.

In the first 6 months of 2014, Tra Vinh attracted 150,000 tourist arrivals, up 3.45% compared to the same period last year, including 4,800 international arrivals and 145,200 domestic trippers.

Ben Tre invests in development of accommodation establishments to serve tourists

Ben Tre has invested in tourism infrastructure, especially accommodation. The province has more than 50 accommodation establishments, considerably increasing in comparison with last years, especially the number of 3-star hotels. Tourist growth has been seen in all types of accommodation, which shows that the number of tourists increases equally from luxury to budget segments.

Investment in promotion leads to positive effects, contributing to attracting investors in tourist accommodation services. Besides, strengthening tourism cooperation with localities in Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City has reinforced position of Ben Tre tourism.

 In 2013, Ben Tre welcomed over 800,000 tourist arrivals and total tourism receipts reached VND 459 billion. The province has set the target of attracting 1 million tourist arrivals in 2014, including 450,000 international arrivals.

An Giang diversifies tourism types

According to An Giang Culture, Sports and Tourism Department, in 2014, An Giang focuses on exploiting tourism potentials, diversifying tourism products, investing in infrastructure and training human resource. Accordingly, An Giang develops different types of tourism such as spiritual tourism, leisure tourism, entertainment and ecotourism.

In order to lure more tourists to An Giang, the locality has invested in development of tourist areas including Chau Doc entertainment area, Nui Cam and Nui Sam tourist area and Ba Chua Xu Temple. Bung Binh Thien ecotourism area will focus on investing in infrastructure, restoration of weaving villages of Cham ethnic and founding traditional and modern rowing club to meet the diversified demand of tourists.

In addition, An Giang also focuses on promoting historical and cultural relics, agritourism, community-based tourism.
