Conference discusses tourism policies for future development

Over 160 delegates from 17 nations gathered in HCM city on July 2 for the 20th Conference on Tourism Policy of Future Development in Asia Pacific Region.

The three-day event co-organised by HCM City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Asia-Pacific Tourism Association (APTA), aims to share experiences in promoting growth, improving the quality of tourism in the region and support tourism activities of APTA members as well as helping foreign travel companies build long-term cooperation with local businesses.

Addressing the conference, Vice Chairwoman of HCM City’s People’s Committee emphasised that local authorities have considered tourism as the spearhead economic industry. Over the years, the city has devised proper policies and solutions to promote tourism and improve the quality of human resources, aiming to increase cooperation with local and international businesses.

The city has made great efforts to diversify its tourism products and create a friendly environment to attract more international visitors.

The event also introduced the Greater Mekong Sub-region Tourism Development Strategy and discussed issues related to the development trend of the tourism and hotel management in Asia, management of and human resources, heritage tourism, policies and media technologies in the tourism sector.
