A wide range of activities will be held to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the capital’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 – 2014), according to an announcement made by Hanoi municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on July 29.
A ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Friendship Cultural Palace in Hanoi on the morning of October 10. The event will honour outstanding organisations and individuals in realising the patriotic emulation movement and the ‘Good People and Good Deeds’ movement, as well as Hanoi’s outstanding citizens of 2014.
The highlight of this year’s activities is a fifteen-minute firework shows at 30 venues from 9pm on October 10. Five high-range firework displays will be set off at Hoan Kiem Lake, Thong Nhat Park, West Lake, Van Quan Lake and My Dinh National Stadium.
On the occasion, Hanoi will organise cultural activities such as exhibitions on the capital’s development during the past 60 years, a ‘Book Street’ programme, the 2014 Festival for Traditional Handicraft Villages, the Hanoi Cuisine Festival as well as the 2014 Hanoi Fashion Week with 250 Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditional long dress) from 15 of the latest collections from Vietnamese designers across the country.
Beside these events, the Hanoi municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will focus on the upgrading of some historical monuments in Hanoi.
In addition, various public cultural and arts activities will also be held to highlight the capital’s traditions and achievements over the past years.
