Update: Jan 05, 2016
A programme entitled “Welcome 2016 - Food - A cultural feature of Viet Nam” is taking place at the Culture Tourism Village of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups in Dong Mo, Son Tay Town, Ha Noi from January 1 to 3, as part of activities to welcome 2016 new year.

The event features a cultural food space introducing unique specialties of each region across the country, while honouring the traditional tugging rituals and games recently recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. A variety of traditional cultural activities from Mong, Tay and Nung ethnic minority groups are also being held under the programme, alongside the participation of artisans from Ha Noi’s craft villages.

* A kite festival is being held in the southern coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on January 1 to celebrate the New Year 2016. The two-day event draws 10 professional kite clubs together with 100 artisans from cities and provinces nationwide.

As many as 150 unique kites colour the 2.2 kilometre beach of the Grand Ho Tram Strip, a local high-end integrated resort in Xuyen Moc district. A highlight of the festival is the “Rokkaku kite battle” in which kite fliers try to knock other kites out of the sky.

* An artistic newsreel photo exhibition featuring Son Tra Eco-forest is underway in the central coastal city of Da Nang from January 1 to 5. As a 2016 welcome activity, the event is aimed at honouring the Son Tra eco beauty and calling for the community’s joint efforts to protect the natural ecosystem on Son Tra Peninsula,

The exhibition showcases over 100 photos captured of Son Tra’s natural landscapes and wild animals, most of which are on the rare species list, ‘Vooc Cha Va chan nau’ (shanked doucs).
