(TITC) – On 21 April, in Hai Phong, conference on promoting to open new air routes to Hai Phong was jointly organized by the City People’s Committee and the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam.

The conference brings opportunities for trade and tourism linkage between Hai Phong as well as Northern Coastal provinces with other localities in Viet Nam and overseas. At the conference, leaders of Hai Phong City promised to facilitate enterprises, including financial assistance, advertisement and opening of representative offices.
On this occasion, the relevant sides signed a memorandum of understanding on opening new air routes from Cat Bi International Airport to domestic provinces of Kien Giang, Lam Dong, Nghe An, Can Tho; and international destinations of Japan, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and vice versa.
Currently, Cat Bi International Airport is exploiting flights to 5 domestic destinations of Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Pleiku and Buon Ma Thuot, and one international destination in China.
The opening of the new routes will help to shorten travelling time, reduce costs for passengers; also boost economic development, encourage travel businesses to create new tourism products.
As scheduled, the project on extension of Cat Bi International Airport will be completed and come into operation on 12 May, capable of receiving Boeing 777, Boeing 747, Boeing 767, A321 and similar models.
In the first quarter of this year, Cat Bi International Airport received 363,600 passengers, increasing 48.7 percent over the same period last year and handled 1,610 tonnes of cargo, up 15 percent. By 2020, it targets to reach 2.3 million passengers and 11,000 tonnes of cargo.
