Around 50 fliers from clubs nationwide will compete in a paragliding race on Son Tra Peninsula in the central city of Da Nang on June 17-22.

The head of the Da Nang Paragliding club, Duong Hien Hoang said the race, Flying over the Tien Sa Festival, aims to boost tourism and create a recreational event for tourists during summer.

He said members from VietWing, Aviation Clubs of Hanoi, Hai Phong, Nha Trang, the Northern and Southern Aviation clubs, and 10 free paragliders and foreigners will join the five-day event.

As scheduled, men’s and women’s pilots will race from the top of Son Tra Mountain (693m above sea level) to land on Man Thai beach over seven rounds for the championship title on two days from June 18-19.

The event’s organising committee also host fun fly for tourists after the race.

Paragliding is a recreational and competitive sport that took off in the country 10 years ago.

The city also hosts an annual paragliding event to attract tourists during summer holidays.

In 2012, the coastal city hosted the International Paramotor Race, which drew thousands of spectators.
