Bicycle tour around Son Tra Peninsula

(TITC) - On 25 December 2016, in East Sea Park (Da Nang City), Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment in collaboration with Viet Nam’s World Wide Fund for Nature, Da Nang Department of Tourism and People’s Committee of Son Tra District launched the bicycle tour to discover Son Tra Natural Reserve. This is the first activity of Da Nang City in the program “International Green City”.

 

The tour had the participants of the volunteers from departments, agencies, universities, associations and bicycle clubs in Da Nang City as well as domestic and foreign visitors. The discovering journey has 35km length, including 30km mountain road and 5km flat road with the itinerary: East Sea Park – Vo Nguyen Giap Street - Linh Ung Son Tra Pagoda – InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort – Ho Sau – Tien Sa – Yet Kieu Street – Le Duc Tho Street.

The program ”International Green City” is an initiative of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and aims to call the cities around the world to take action towards the green planet in the future, at the same time build and implement the plans to mitigate and adapt to climate change. In Viet Nam, the program has been implemented with the objectives of sustainable transport, green development, environmentally friendliness and climate change response. In 2016, Hue City (Thua Thien – Hue Province) was the first city in Viet Nam involving in the program and became a National Green City in 2016. Currently, Da Nang has taken part in this program for the period 2017-2018.

Through the cycling journey, the program contributes to raising community’s awareness, building habit of green transport, protecting environmental and biological diversity, especially conservation of brown-shanked douc langur – an endemic specie of Da Nang City. Bicycle tour is expected to become a new tourism product of Da Nang City.
