HCMC vice chairman Tran Vinh Tuyen on March 29 assigned the Military High Command to coordinate with the Department of Tourism to prepare for a fireworks display program, which will also include artistic lighting and music shows, on Reunification Day (April 30).
The instruction was given following a proposal by a foreign enterprise to weekly organize fireworks displays combined with artistic lighting in the city at six different locations in the city.
The program will include 50 flower boats and a floating stage in the river. Bach Dang wharf will be used as the background.
Beside Bach Dang wharf, the city will choose three other locations for fireworks displays on Reunification Day to serve about 40,000 people.
The city has long organized fireworks displays on special occasions, but such shows have lacked artistic elements.
Therefore, the Department of Tourism will work with foreign consultants to carry out artistic lighting shows to help develop tourism in both the city center and the outlying districts of Cu Chi and Can Gio, Tuyen added.
Bui Ta Hoang Vu, director of the Department of Tourism, said fireworks displays combined with lighting and music shows would be carried out on a weekly basis with all expenses to be covered by the private sector.
