The four-day event, themed “Ngoc Linh Legend”, features various activities, including the showcasing and introduction of Ngoc Linh ginseng products; cultural and artistic performances; tours exploring Ngoc Linh ginseng cultivating regions, as well as the cultural splendors of Nam Tra My District’s ethnic minority groups.
The festival aims to promote Ngoc Linh ginseng, a precious and rare medicinal plant of Viet Nam, to both domestic and foreign tourists, thereby helping to develop the ginseng grown on Ngoc Linh Mountain into a branded medicinal plant with a high economic value, on a par with other types of ginseng from the Republic of Korea, the United States, Russia and Canada.
At the same time, through the festival’s activities, domestic and foreign tourists will be introduced to the potential, advantages and cultural splendors of ethnic minority groups living in Nam Tra My District.
Addressing the event, Chairman of the Nam Tra My District People’s Committee Ho Quang Buu noted that Ngoc Linh ginseng is an especially precious and rare medicinal plant, containing up to 52 saponin compounds and is, therefore, one of the most precious types of ginseng in the world.
Over the course of recent years, particularly since the Prime Minister approved the project on the preservation and development of Ngoc Linh ginseng, conservation and development work for this type of plant has been increasingly strengthened, with the drastic engagement from all sectors and levels, bringing about many significant results, he said.
There are currently more than 1,000 households growing Ngoc Linh ginseng in Nam Tra My District. Particularly, on June 5, the PM decided to add Ngoc Linh ginseng to the list of national products, opening up new opportunities for the conservation and development of the precious medicinal plant in Nam Tra My and neighbouring areas.
Under the framework of the festival, on June 10, the Ministry of Information and Communications announced a decision to issue a Ngoc Linh ginseng stamp set in 168 countries around the world. This is the first stamp set featuring Ngoc Linh ginseng to be widely issued, aiming to advertise the brand of Vietnamese ginseng all over the world.
