Kien Giang welcomes over 4.8 million visitors so far

The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang served over 4.8 million tourists in the first nine months of this year, a rise of 6.7 percent over the same period last year, including over 279,000 foreigners.

According to the provincial Department of Tourism, the sector earned over 3.4 trillion VND (149.56 million USD) in the reviewed time, up 24.4 percent year on year.

Phu Quoc island and Ha Tien were most popular destinations of Kien Giang, which lured over 2.7 million and more than 1.5 million visitors, respectively.

In the rest of the year, Kien Giang hopes to draw more tourists thanks to its hosting of the Miss Grand International 2017 in Phu Quoc in November.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Mai Van Huynh said that along with the success of the National Tourism Year 2016, the province has promoted its tourism  through various channels, while investing in the sector to make it a spearhead one in 2020, with special focus on promoting infrastructure system.

According to the provincial Department of Tourism, the province will concentrate on Ha Tien as the major tourism hub with close connection with Phu Quoc and other sites in the region.

Meanwhile, the province will also focus on developing strategic products with higher quality of service, while strengthening the protection of the environment and wastewater treatment to support tourism development.
