Da Nang’s tourism prospers after APEC 2017
Update: Jan 08, 2018
Selected as one of the most attractive destinations in Asia, Da Nang welcomed 6.6 million visitors in 2017, an increase of 1 million from the previous year. Local tourism has seen tremendous opportunities to prosper, especially after the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang this past November.

Visitors to Da Nang are often impressed with the friendliness and honesty of local people, which has contributed significantly to its image of a peaceful and hospitable city.

“I myself always try to smile with my customers with the hope of leaving them with a good impression of Da Nang.”, said 58-year-old Tran Dinh Chot, a senior cyclo driver in Da Nang.

Endowned with beautiful beaches, Da Nang has attracted many big investors and owners of world-class beach resorts, including Furama, Premier Village, Pullman, and Crowne Plaza among others. According to Nguyen Duc Quynh, Deputy General Director of Furama Resort, Viet Nam’s successful hosting of APEC's Economic Leaders’ Week has proved that Da Nang is capable of providing quality accommodation for international events.

“We have more than 700 employees who are tasked with providing our customers with the best services and help educate other local people about good manners in public places in Da Nang.”, said Quynh.

Deputy General Director of Viet Nam Tourism Joint-Stock Company Vitours, Le Tan Thanh Tung, said APEC 2017 was an ideal opportunity for travel agents to promote their tours as well as the image of Da Nang and Viet Nam to international friends. Tung proposed that Da Nang create more shopping centers and night walking zones with cuisine booths and art performing activities.

“Da Nang needs a focused shopping center. A center trading local specialities should be established in key tourist regions, including Da Nang.”, said Tung.

Last year, Da Nang hosted many important international events including the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, Asian Golf Tourism Convention, and the 20th Viet Nam Film Festival.

“The city is now focusing on developing many new and special tourism products.  This will encourage domestic and foreign visitors to extend their stay periods, return later, and recommend Da Nang to others. More effective measures should be taken to promote the city’s MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Exhibition) tourism, in addition to existing tours of popular destinations such as Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Holy site.”, said Nguyen Xuan Binh, Deputy Director of Da Nang municipal Department of Tourism.
