(TITC) – On October 1, 2018, in An Giang Province, Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) organized a conference on enhancing the efficiency of agricultural tourism in Mekong Delta region.
The conference aimed to discuss about current situation, development trend and solutions to remove difficulties in exploiting agricultural tourism in the region. It was also a chance for businesses to exchange successful and creative models of agricultural tourism.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of People’s Committee of An Giang Province, Mekong Delta region has been known as the largest agricultural area of the country. As one of 7 tourism areas of Viet Nam, the region features peaceful landscapes, friendly people hence forming many agricultural tourism destinations as Tien Giang, Dong Thap, Ben Tre, Hau Giang, Vinh Long, Can Tho, etc. In particular, a number of typical tourism models in An Giang Province have been developed as Cu Lao Ong Ho (My Hoa Hung Commune, Long Xuyen City), Cu Lao Gieng (Cho Moi District), etc., which bring more income for farmers and encourage creative business in rural area.
Visiting Mekong Delta regional provinces, visitors can experience rural daily life, learn more about traditional craft villages and explore popular floating markets like Long Xuyen, Cai Be, Cai Rang, Phung Hiep, etc.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of VNAT, Mr. Ngo Hoai Chung impressed that Mekong Delta region has potentials and advantages to develop agriculture-based tourism - a prominent trend in many countries in the world.
Vice Chairman Ngo Hoai Chung said that it’s necessary for each province and city in the region to choose a specific agricultural tourism model to develop and boost its values; in addition to connecting with tour operators to bring tourists and focusing on promotional activities.
Agricultural tourism is a new tourism product which contributes to promoting advantages and outstanding values of agriculture.
