The Festival of Culture, Sports and Tourism will be held for northwestern ethnic groups from March 27-30, the Lai Chau provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has revealed.
Head of the Department Tran Van Long, who is also Deputy Head of the festival’s organising board, said that all preparations have been completed for the participation of 15,000 ethnic people from six northwestern mountainous provinces – Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La and Hoa Binh.
The festival will help consolidate national unity, and preserve the cultural identity of northwestern ethnic groups, he added.
According to Mr. Long, the festival will include a costume show, and a beauty queen contest.
Also, a seminar will be held on the development of tourism in the northwestern region, as well as a fair featuring handicrafts and traditional ethnic musical instruments.
The organising board has registered a Guinness Vietnam record with a ring of more than 1,000 people gathered at the opening of the festival.
