Tourism programme to attract more visitors to Mu Cang Chai in pouring-water season
Update: May 25, 2020
A tourism programme will be launched in Mu Cang Chai district in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai on May 30 to attract more visitors to the locality during the pouring-water season this May, when farmers make the water run into their fields to start a new rice crop.

Visitors to the programme will be invited to take part in various activities including a paragliding festival at weekends from May 30 to July 15, night music performances every Saturday from May 30 to July 20, tours to places of interests in the district, and events promoting the traditional culture of local Thai and H’mong ethnic groups.

They can also try their hands at drawing in beeswax, weaving and making traditional musical instruments or enjoy folk songs and dance.

A fair will be set up on the occasion to introduce local agricultural products and indigenous dishes.

The programme is being held in response of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s campaign on encouraging Vietnamese people to travel domestically. It seeks to promote the landscape and unique culture of the Mu Cang Chai district to visitors at home and abroad while raising locals’ awareness of preserving and upholding their traditional culture.

The district People’s Committee has asked functional agencies to take comprehensive measures to ensure food safety and social security, as well as the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic towards the successful organisation of the programme.
