(TITC) – On 29 December 2020, in Ha Noi, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) organized the conference to review the performance in 2020 and implement the tasks in 2021.

The conference was held in the context of the tourism industry trying to overcome the difficulties caused by Covid-19, strongly implementing the domestic tourism stimulus program to restore operations.
VNAT’s Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh said due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, the world tourism industry in general and Vietnam in particular suffered heavy losses. In 2020, international visitors to Vietnam only recorded about 3.7 million, a decrease of 79.5% compared to 2019; domestic visitors reached 56 million, down 34.1%; total tourism revenue reached 312 trillion VND, down 58.7%.
Facing this situation, the VNAT has advised the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to promptly respond to Covid-19, ensure safety for tourists. After the epidemic was controlled, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism actively advised the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to launch a program to stimulate domestic tourism with the theme "Vietnamese people to travel Vietnam" and "Vietnam Tourism: Safe and Attractive ".
The stimulus program received a very positive response from localities and businesses, attracting tourists to travel again, thereby reducing damage to the tourism industry.
The Covid-19 translation continues to develop complicatedly in the world, posing many challenges for tourism on the way of recovery. The World Tourism Organization predicted that international tourism can only start the recovery from the third quarter of 2021.
At the conference, delegates contributed many ideas on solutions for tourism recovery in the coming time. In which, focusing on the orientation of tourism promotion, implementing safe tourism activities, continuing to propose policies to remove difficulties for businesses and labors in the industry...
Addressing at the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hung highly valued the performance of the tourism industry to overcome difficulties and restore operations in 2020.
Regarding the orientation and tasks in 2021, the Deputy Minister emphasized that this is the first year of implementing the Resolution of the XIII National Congress of the Party, the Socio-Economic Development Plan for the period of 2021-2025 of the country. Therefore, the tourism industry needs to continue to innovate, expressing the aspirations for development in the new period.
