(TITC) - On 23rd February 2022 in Ha Noi, the People’s Committee of Quang Nam Province in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) and Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) held a press conference to announce the Visit Vietnam Year 2022 event. Mr. Doan Van Viet, MOCST’s Deputy Minister; Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, VNAT’s chairman; Mr. Tran Van Tan, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Nam Province and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DOCST) chaired the press conference.

Giving a speech to start the press conference, Mr. Doan Van Viet, MOCST’s Deputy Minister stated that after 2 years being severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2022, Vietnam tourism industry is receiving signs of prosperity and gradually resuming activities in some major localities and tourist centres around the country.

The setting goal of the Vietnam tourism industry in 2022 is to strive to welcome 65 million visitor arrivals, including 5 million international arrivals, about 60 million domestic visitor arrivals, and total tourism receipts reach VND400 trillion.

Quang Nam Province - a land rich in cultural traditions, revolutionary history, upholding many potentials and strengths in natural and cultural conditions for tourism development: 02 UNESCO World Heritage Sites are Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Sanctuary; Cu Lao Cham biosphere reserve; Traditional craft villages such as Tra Que Vegetable, Kim Bong carpentry, Thanh Ha pottery, Bay Mau water coconut forest, Bai Choi singing - UNESCO Representative of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity…

With these potentials, Quang Nam has become a bright spot on the tourist map of Vietnam and the world, being mentioned by many international travel websites in recent years. Especially, Hoi An Ancient Town has been named the winner of Asia's leading cultural city destination category at the 2019 and 2021 World Travel Awards; it is also voted as one of the most romantic places in the world in 2022 by Time Out (UK).

To promote the role of Quang Nam tourism in linking and creating motivation for tourism development in the central region, Quang Nam Province is honoured to be chosen as a host to organise the Visit Vietnam Year 2022 under the theme “Quang Nam - A green tourism destination”. Mr. Viet believes that through this event, the values and potentials of local tourism in particular and Vietnam tourism in general will continue to be effectively developed, promoted and upheld, contributing to realising the goal of bringing tourism to become a key economic sector.

The Visit Vietnam Year is the typical cultural, economic, social and tourist event of the national scale, this is also the largest annual tourism event of Vietnam tourism industry; it is considered as an opportunity to attract domestic and international tourists to Vietnam by introducing and promoting images, tangible and intangible cultural values, resources and unique tourism products of Vietnam; at the same time, strongly promote tourism development connections among localities.

The Visit Vietnam Year - Quang Nam 2022 will consist of 192 activities and events; In which, the MOCST will be in charge of hosting 10 national and international events; Quang Nam Province will host 62 events, with several attractive and exciting activities according to 06 themes taking place throughout 2022: (1) Spring trip to Quang Nam, (2) River, agriculture tourism and OCOP products, (3) Chu Lai meeting point tourism, (4) tourism of ethnic group culture and the legendary Ho Chi Minh road, (5) Quang Nam - Summer emotions, (6) Tourism - Heritage colours; and 120 events and activities in response will be held by 40 provinces and cities across the country.

Additionally, Quang Nam Province in associated to organise some events such as “Korean Culture Days in Hoi An”; Cultural exchange activities to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between India and Vietnam; organised Ao dai show, Hoi An Memories show, Trinh Cong Son music night… with the participation of domestic and international delegations.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Quang Nam DOCST’s Director shared, in 2022, the province is expected to welcome 4.2 million visitor arrivals; including 1.7 million international arrivals, the total tourism receipts reach VND6,000 billion. In 2019, before the COVID-19 outbreak, Quang Nam Province welcomed 7.6 million arrivals, including 4.6 million international arrivals; the total receipts reached VND14,000 billion. The number of international visitors comes mainly from the markets of Korea, Australia, the UK, France, China, the USA, Germany, Japan, Malaysia...

The highlight of the Visit Vietnam Year 2022 is the Opening ceremony of the Visit Vietnam Year 2022 - “Quang Nam - A green tourism destination” will be held at the Hoi An Memories Island (Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province) on 25th March 2022, and live on Vietnam Television and Quang Nam Radio Television (QRT); The Closing ceremony and Welcoming New Year 2023 will be held at the end of December 2022 at Vinpearl Nam Hoi An (Thang Binh District, Quang Nam Province), he added.

At the press conference, some questions that were raised by representatives of a number of press agencies, such as the theme of the Visit Vietnam Year, green tourism products, and the work of ensuring safety for tourists at localities and tourist accommodation establishments, plans to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic…

About the theme “green tourism” of the Visit Vietnam Year 2022, VNAT’s Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh answered: Green growth, green tourism is the decisive trend of Vietnam tourism and has been included in the Vietnam tourism development strategy to 2030 and the 10-year socio-economic development strategy 2021-2030 as well. Therefore, green growth, develop green tourism will be the highlight of the tourism industry in the upcoming time. Quang Nam chose to develop green tourism and is on the same page with the current trend. This is also a locality with valuable experiences in cultural heritage preservation, sustainable tourism development, which can be replicated in many localities in the country.

Mr. Khanh added, the VNAT and DOCST continue perfecting the design of the identity; on that basis, there are guiding documents sent to localities to request to use officially in response activities and events. VNAT will continuously coordinate promoting further events and activities of the Visit Vietnam Year 2022 on mass media channels, in domestic and foreign media campaigns. He emphasised the top issue when reopening tourism is to ensure the safety of tourists, to provide tourism product packages suitable to the needs of the market; strengthen the connection among Quang Nam tourism and localities in the region in order to diversify the chain of tourism products.
