(TITC) - The workshop was held on September 19th under the coordination of the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and the William Angliss Institute (Australia) in the framework of the ASEAN - Australia Development Cooperation Program (phase II).

The workshop had the presence of Mr. Tran Phu Cuong, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department (VNAT), experts of the William Angliss Institute (Australia), representatives of the General Department of Vocational Training (MOLISA), hotels, restaurants, travel agencies and tourism training establishments.

At the workshop, 98 toolboxes for Front Office, Food & Beverage Services and Food Production were introduced by the Australian experts. This is part of the Australian Government's support program for developing 242 toolboxes for 6 tourism divisions of Front Office, Housekeeping, Food Production, Food & Beverage Services, Travel Agencies and Tour Operations applied amongst ASEAN countries.

The representatives highly valued the quality of the toolboxes developed by the William Angliss's experts, which provide detailed instructions for trainees, trainers and assessors to achieve competency at work. They also gave specific opinions of how to effectively apply the toolboxes in practical circumstance of Viet Nam.

As scheduled, national workshops will be conducted in each ASEAN Member State to review and obtain feedback on the toolboxes and then a final regional workshop to review and endorse suggested changes for an agreed competency standard in ASEAN.

Since 2009, ASEAN Member States have signed the Mutual Recognition Arrangement with the aim to facilitate the mobility of skilled tourism labors in the region, exchange information on best practices in competency-based education and training for tourism professionals and provide opportunities for cooperation and capacity building across ASEAN Member States. This is an important contribution to accelerate the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community by 2015.
