The Southern Fruit Festival 2014

(TITC) - After 9 years of organizing, the Southern Fruit Festival has become the most awaited cultural event of Ho Chi Minh City every summer. The festival aims to honor achievements in agricultural sector of Southern and Vietnamese people at the same time contribute to promoting and introducing Ho Chi Minh City to international and domestic visitors. 

The Southern Fruit Festival 2014 is expected to open on 1 June 2014 in Suoi Tien Cultural Park (120 Ha Noi Highway, District 9, Ho Chi Minh City) and last until 8 June 2014. It will attract the participations of trade-tourism businesses, agriculture import- export units, gardeners, artisans from 21 provinces and cities in the Southern region and neighbors, especially consulates of countries in Ho Chi Minh City such as United States, Japan, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand, Republic of Korea, India, Malaysia...

Coming to the festival, visitors will have opportunity to participate in market of fruit and craft products with about 50 stalls introducing and selling fruit specialties such as Hoang Gia pomelo (Vinh Long Province); Hoang Hau dragon fruit (Long An Province); Luc Ngan lychee (Bac Giang Province); Cai Mon durian (Ben Tre Province); Sa Dec star apple, Hoa Loc mango (Dong Thap Province); Vinh Kim seedless guava (Tien Giang Province); Lai Thieu mangosteen (Binh Duong Province); Tan Trieu Bien Hoa pomelo, Long Thanh jackfruit, Vinh Cuu orange (Dong Nai Province); Sa Pa peach (Lao Cai Province); plum (Lang Son Province); custard apple (Tay Ninh Province); Hoang Kim melon (Hau Giang Province)...

At this year’s festival, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to coordinate with Suoi Tien Cultural Tourist Corporation to organize the 5th contest of Southern delicious and safe fruit with the participations of gardeners, cooperatives and enterprises from 21 provinces and cities in the South. In the framework of the contest, besides two main parts including the contest of delicious and safe fruit and the exhibition on uncommon fruit, there are also the workshop “Exchanging, connecting supply and demand to build consumer channel of  Southern fruit”, farmer quiz, lucky draw...

The festival also attracts visitors by many cultural performances on fruit (fruit fashion parade, fruit carnival, visual arts with fruit), display and exhibition on lotus, folk games, especially the show of don ca tai tu to honor the unique art type recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
