Over 10,000 Buddhist monks, followers attend Vu Lan festival

More than 10,000 monks, nuns and Buddhist followers from 20 southern provinces are expected to attend the largest-ever religious ceremony at Lac Canh-Dai Nam-Van Hien Tourist Resort in Binh Duong province on August 14-15 for the Vu Lan Festival.

The Vu Lan Festival, also known as Mother’s Day in Vietnam, falls on the 15th day of the 7th lunar month and is a time for children to express filial loyalty to their parents.

On the occasion, a ceremony will also be held to congratulate nearly 1,000 elderly people on their longevity. In addition, 1,000 gifts worth VND200,000 each will be given to poor students for the upcoming school year.
