Phu Yen to host International Mountain Climbing Tournament

The International Mountain Climbing Tournament will be organized for the first time in Phu Yen Province with the theme “Conquer the top of Da Bia Mountain” on March 27, 2011.

This tournament is one of the major activities to celebrate National Tourism Year 2011 hosted by Phu Yen Province.

 

Participating this tournament include 15 teams from the central, highland provinces, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and four teams from Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia. Each team has six athletes (3 women and 3 men), a coach and a leader.

 
Competitive distance is divided into two types: one for professional athletes of five-kilometer long (three-kilometer long road and two-kilometer climbing) and one for the movement of two-kilometer climbing.


Da Bia Mountain with 706 meters high is located in Dong Hoa District, Phu Yen Province. The trail to the top is about 2.2 kilometers long, and it takes more than two hours to conquer the top. It was recognized as the national landscape by the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism in 2008 and is one of 17 typical cultural and historical relics and natural sites in Phu Yen Province.
