Update: Jul 20, 2011
Fifty young chefs from hotels and restaurants across Vietnam will gather at Mon Ngon Viet Nam(Delicious Vietnamese Cuisine) studio in HCMC’s District 1 on Wednesday to show off their skills by making 10 different dishes.

The contestants will make four Vietnamese dishes as well as hot chicken, seafood, beef and lamb, pasta, pizza and desserts at the three-day Young Chef Cup 2011 organized by Mon Ngon Viet Nam magazine, the Saigon Professional Chefs Association and the Saigon Young Chefs Club.

The finalists, who were shortlisted from more than 100 applicants, will have to prepare two portions of each dish for the jury to taste and judge as well as for display.

The jury will announce the winning creations at the Rex Hotel in downtown HCMC on Friday afternoon.

The creators of the 10 winning dishes will receive cups, medals and certificates of recognition jointly-signed by the association, the club and the magazine. The winners will participate in courses run by the Saigon Professional Chefs Association before heading for international competitions.

Vo Quoc, marketing director of Mon Ngon Viet Nam and member of the jury, said the winning chefs would represent the young chefs club to vie for prizes at the competitions hosted by the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS).

Quoc said the Young Chef Cup 2011 was aimed at promoting Vietnamese delicacies and finding ethical and talented chefs. He added Vietnam was home to various sources of ingredients, vegetables and herbs that chefs can use to create regional cuisine.
