Organizers of the cooking challenge Young Chef Cup 2011 awarded gold medals and certificates of recognition to rookie chefs who impressed judges with their outstanding cooking skills and presentation.

The gold medalists defeated young chefs from hotels and restaurants all over Vietnam at the three-day competition, organized by Mon Ngon Viet Nam (Delicious Vietnamese Dish) magazine, the Saigon Professional Chef’s Guide and the Saigon Young Chefs Club in HCMC. The event also aimed to promote Vietnamese cuisine.
Vo Quoc, marketing director of Mon Ngon Viet Nam and jury member, said the Saigon Professional Chef’s Guide (SPC) would provide the winners with courses to help them sharpen up their cooking and presentation skills in preparation for international competitions.
Quoc added that the winning chefs would represent the young chefs club at competitions hosted by the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS). SPC vice-chairman Norbert Ehrbar commented, that although some contestants came up short, it was good training for them to improve their skills and experience for future competitions.
Ehrbar told the Daily after the ceremony that an international cooking competition would take place in HCMC in September for Vietnamese and foreign chefs of hotels and restaurants in the country.
A dozen chefs and food experts from all over the world will judge at the competition.
