On 8th April 2012, a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony aiming to prepare for the establishment of a Vietnam Tourism Representative Office in Japan was held at Hue City. The memorandum was signed by the Preparation Committees for the Establishment of Vietnam Tourism Representative Office in Japan of Viet Nam and Japan.

The ceremony had the attendance of Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Head of the Preparation Committee of Vietnamese side; Mr. Le Tuan Anh, Director of the Tourism Marketing Department, Vice Head of the Preparation Committee of Vietnamese side; Mr. Yoichiro Aoyagi, Head of the Preparation Committee of Japanese side; some leaders of the VNAT and guests from Japan.
Accordingly, the objective of the cooperation is to officially establish the Vietnam Tourism Representative Office in Japan complying with laws and current regulations of Vietnam and Japan. Along with the preparation of legal procedures and resources, the two sides will cooperate to promote Vietnam tourism information, encourage implementation of “Visit Vietnam - One Million Japanese Visitor Campaignâ€, establish a showroom introducing Vietnam’s tourism …
Vietnam and Japan have long been two strategic partners in many areas, including tourism. In the recent years, Japan has always been an important market of Vietnam tourism industry. In 2011, the number of Japanese tourists to Vietnam reached 481,519 arrivals, ranked 3rd among the top source markets. The establishment of a representative office is an opportunity to promote legitimately for the image of Vietnam tourism and strengthen the presence of Vietnam tourism in Japan; satisfy completely, accurately, timely the needs of information for visitors in Japan and contribute to implement the goal of attracting 1 million Japanese arrivals to Vietnam in 2015. At the same time, this is a practical and meaningful activity towards the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Japan in 2013.
