March tourism turnover in Ba Ria – Vung Tau rises nearly 18 percent

Total tourism turnover in the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau in March reached an estimated VND182 billion, a 17.9 percent rise over a year previous, according to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Tourism areas, hotels, leisure centres, and beaches in the province greeted and provided services for more than 681,000 tourist arrivals, bringing the figure to Ba Ria – Vung Tau since the start of the year to 3.3 million arrivals, 24 percent of the year’s plan. Meanwhile, the number of foreign tourists reached 28,568.

Currently, Ba Ria – Vung Tau has 18 FDI projects, capitalized with USD10.7 million. Of this, three were completed or put into operation: Grand-Tram River Strip, Bai Dat tourism area in Con Dao and Ray River tourism area.

The Grand-Tram River Strip is considered the largest project in the province, contributing significant capital to the province’s tourism investment and development. As of January 2014, the complex earned a turnover of USD7 million and its room occupancy reached nearly 40 percent.

Together with contributing to promoting the province’s tourism, the Grand-Tram River Strip created jobs for local workers and helped to develop transport, post and telecommunication, insurance, health, education and finance in the province, attracting large foreign currency inflow to Viet Nam.
