Foreign tourist arrivals to Ho Chi Minh city reached an estimated 301,000 in May 2015, a year-on-year rise of 3.7%, reported the municipal People’s Committee.
With this, the city greeted over 1.85 million arrivals in the first five months this year, a 5% rise against the same period last year.
Travel, hotel and restaurant sales in May hit over VND7.81 trillion, up 4% over a year earlier, contributing to bringing the total in the first five month to over VND39.6 trillion, up 7% year on year.
While the trend in overall foreign tourist arrivals to Viet Nam sees a decrease, the impressive figures of the municipal tourism sector demonstrated the successful efforts in conducting activities such as promoting and developing tourism products, improving the quality of tourism services and ensuring the safety of the visitors.
The city will focus on building more comprehensive tourism information infrastructure to provide more information to both tourists and enterprises, further developing relative products, especially river tourism and organising art programmes such as “Ho Chi Minh City – 100 interesting things”, the Southern Fruit Festival and food festivals in the southern localities.
