Thanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee organised a ceremony on November 22 to receive the biggest bronze drum in Vietnam. The drum was offered by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Lam’s family for the occasion of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23).

In late 2008, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Lam’s family ordered artisan Dang Ich Hoan in Che Dong village, Thieu Trung commune, Thieu Hoa district to make this bronze drum with the aim of developing traditions and honouring Dong Son culture.
The drum has a height of 1.51m and weighs 1,840 kg. In particular, four famous relics in Thanh Hoa province were carved on its face, including the gravestone of Vinh Lang (in Tho Xuan district), the communal house Gia Mieu (in Ha Trung district), the old imperial city of the Ho dynasty and Ham Rong bridge.
It broke the previous record set by artisan Le Van Bay in Thieu Trung, Thieu Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province in 2009-a bronze drum 1.21m high and 739kg in weight.
The Vietnam Guinness Book of Records (Vietbooks) will present the certificate for the biggest bronze drum in Vietnam on November 27.
