Since late March 2025, the locations that were eroded on My Khe Beach in late December 2024 and early 2025 have been filled with sand again.
Most of the sandbag retaining wall sections built to prevent landslides and higher than 1 meter have been filled with sand to cover the top of the embankment. As the waves have become less forceful and are no longer digging into deep water holes as they used to, service providers at the My Khe Beach have quickly begun to restore kiosks, umbrellas, loungers, and temporary toilet areas to serve tourists.
Since My Khe Beach is a well-known tourist destination, these businesses are investing a significant amount of money to renovate their items, ensuring they are aesthetically pleasing, meet customer needs, maintain construction safety, and provide shelter from the sea breeze and summer thunderstorms.
A resident at business group No. 8 said the group had poured about VND 380 million into the restoration of the ground, the repair of the kiosk, and the purchase of coffee grinder. Meanwhile, business group No. 7 has spent nearly VND 200 million to redo 50 thatched roof umbrellas and nearly VND 400 million to renew the kiosk, ground, equipment and machinery to provide services to tourists.
According to the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches, the city's tourist beaches only suffer annual landslides during the rainy and stormy season until the cold air and northeast monsoon weaken, especially when there are storms operating near the shore or directly affecting and cold air and strong northeast monsoons occurring continuously. In the summer, when the southwest monsoon strengthens, sand will be deposited back in the landslide locations on the beach.
In recent times, the Management Board has coordinated with the Authority of Construction and Investment Projects for Traffic and Agriculture Works to effectively prevent landslides. Also, it has taken numerous solutions to protect infrastructure, warn and ensure safety for tourists when participating in activities at the beach.
When the northeast monsoon gradually weakened and sand gradually filled up again at the landslide locations, the unit instructed business service providers to restore customer service activities.
Head of the Management Board Nguyen Duc Vu said that the unit has directed the service business groups to repair the kiosks at their existing locations and refrain from installing new ones outside of these assigned areas. Currently, these service business groups are working diligently to restore their business locations and serve customers, playing a vital role in revitalising tourist services on the beach.
Deputy Director of the Authority of Construction and Investment Projects for Traffic and Agriculture Works Phan Dinh Duc informed that the northeast monsoon and storms and tropical depressions in the last days of December 2024 to February 2025 caused large waves to erode beaches along Hoang Sa, Vo Nguyen Giap and Truong Sa routes, especially at 3 locations from Nguyen Van Thoai Street to the beach area in front of the Hau Sua Restaurant.
To promptly prevent the consequences of natural disasters, and ensure safety for coastal locations that are being eroded, the Authority has directed the contractor to implement measures to build temporary embankments with steel baskets containing sandbags and has basically ensured control of coastal erosion.
This is an emergency solution that utilises on-site materials and labour to address the issue of protecting the coast. To date, beach erosion has been halted, and areas are being filled and gradually restored.
According to the municipal People's Committee's policy, the municipal Department of Construction, the Authority of Construction and Investment Projects for Traffic and Agriculture Works, and related units, are researching, proposing, and reporting on potential solutions to manage coastal erosion during extreme weather conditions.
